october twenty-fourth.

Tonight was pretty crazy. I had relatively serious plans to study physiology, but like Outkast wisely said,
"you can plan a pretty picnic but you can't predict the weather." Or something.

A mutual friend of my roommates and I called me up around ten and told me he planned a surprise get-together at this really fancy club, Kristal, for my roommates birthday that was this past week. Nice gesture, right? Wrong. The part where it's wrong is where you take into consideration the fact that she is completely in love with him, and he feels nothing for her. She's told him numerous times how she feels, and he's told her numerous times that he doesn't reciprocate those feelings. Which is fine, I guess. Rejection is a part of life, an unhappy part, but we move on. This "moving on" thing is a hard process, one that gets exponentially harder when the dude you like throws you surprise parties and gets your hopes up. I told him these things, but he denied my prediction that this would turn out badly. I truly feel that while he doesn't like her and feels awkward when she tells him, either sober or drunk, he likes it. He likes the attention and knowing he has her on a string and can have her if he feels like it. And that's shitty.

So I didn't support this plan, but was somehow assigned the task of getting her to the club by 12. This was pretty much impossible for a few reasons. One, she sings in the church choior sunday mornings at 8, and never goes out saturdays because f this. Two, Kristal is a really fancy club. Cover is ridiculous and everything else is overpriced to match. And three, she was already in bed watching grey's. Do you understand that when I'm having a lazy saturday night and I'm already in bed, warm and lazy pretty much nothing can lure me out of bed? Especially the prospect of getting ready. I assume she's the same. Long story short, although I'd love to describe in detail my awesome persuasion skillz, she got ready and we made it there on time.

Cover in dollars was something around 25 dollars, which might not sound like a lot, but considering basically ALL clubs in bucharest offer free entry if you're A. a female or B. or student, this was obscene. I bit my tongue and went to fish out my money when my roommate told me she had to go back because she couldn't afford it. I'm freaking out, telling her she can't and simultaneously telling the bouncer to chill the eff out, that we were going to pay in a second. I know my roommate's financial situation is rougher than mine, a lot rougher, so I told her it was no problem and paid for both of us. I'm glad she went in but this next week is going to suck money-wise. Bleh. I'll deal with it when the time comes.

We go in and find everyone, we chiche-ly yell "SURPRISEEE!!" and laughs are had. As I predicted, she took this gesture as something more than he meant it, and spent the majority of the night pounding down drink after expensive drink and being sloppy all over him. I guess it bothered me a bit that she couldn't pay cover but could afford drinks for both her and her crush. So yeah, I guess I'm a little bitter that I didn't drink because I paid 50 dollars on cover alone and was trying to save money. Whatever.

My feet hurt and the place was PACKED. Like, I'm not claustrophobic, but the amount of people constantly rubbing against you, spilling drinks everywhere was crazy. I went to the bathroom about nine times just to sit down and rub my temples, also to remind myself this night was about my roommate and that I should go back out and bear it. Which I did, but not like she noticed since she was throwing herself all over our friend.

With my duty complete, and completely sober, I found a little corner and just people watched for about two hours. The best way I could describe it is if I took the Just Dance music video and bred it with latfh.com. I know I do a lot of crazy things (leave my comfortable life in michigan to fly across the ocean to move to romania, go to med school, erm... also other stuff) but nights like this make me bite my lip to prevent laughter. It honestly was just too ridiculous to see a thousand people dressed and acting so snobby.

My reverie ended abruptly when I got a call from our mutual friend, which I promptly answered on the second ring, as I was sober and on top of things, not something I can say for my roommate. He told me she'd been in the bathroom for a long time and he was worried. I went in and called her name to no avail. I started knocking/opening doors and found her on my third try, slumped in the corner, nestled between the garbage can and toilet. I freaked out because she wasn't answering and cursed myself silently for being in med school and not knowing what to do. All sorts of terrible thoughts were running through my head when she spewed vomit all over. I just wanted some confirmation she was breathing, but I guess that did the job too. I held her hair back while she dry heaved for a while and felt genuinely sad that this is how the night turned out for her. And that she paid a shit ton of money on drinks only to end up vomiting them.

Fast forward past the cab ride back where she threw up in the taxi, past the general annoyances of dealing with super drunk people, to my bed where I have a two liter of water and sunflower seeds. I'm chill. She's probably going to have a killer hangover sunday, and hate life when her alarm rings in four hours, but we learn from our mistakes. Or, in my case, sometimes you don't. Sometimes you make that same mistake over and over until you get it. I'm not judging my roommate, truly. Last year I messed up A LOT with the drinking thing, sometimes I still slip up. Life is messy.

I'm going to take my contacts out and watch Mad Men until I pass out, see you guys tomorrow!

october twenty-third.

Fridays mean another week is over! This week seemed to go by so slow because I didn't have internet (lame, I know. But true.) so I gave up on willing the weekend to get here around wednesday, and friday kind of just crept up on me.
Lately I've just been thinking so much about everything. I have so many words crashing into each other in my head, all thinking they're the most important, so I have a bunch of partially thought-out ideas but no finished ones. I tried talking a few of them out to no avail. I sound really inarticulate and I get in this lame pre-teen mindset like "NO ONE UNDERSTANDS ME! RAWRRR." I don't think this even makes sense. I'm not trying to be cryptic, I'm just legitimately jumbled.

I have no real plans for the weekend. My physiology exam is next friday and I really should just study as much as I can this weekend, but I know how such plans always turn out. I've recently started watching Mad Men, and I really, really like it. It's set in the 60's and it stuns me at how well everything is recreated (not that I really know how things were back then, I'm just going off my tenth grade history knowledge) and acted. I'm five episodes into season one, so I think we can all successfully predict how my weekend is going to unfold. Do any of you guys watch it? None of my friends do, but it's definitely a step up from Gossip Girl (which I'm starting to get bleh about. Hilary Duff cannot act! fdjkgds and it's getting so ridiculous and terrible and unrealistic. I mean, I know it was always unrealistic, but they're in college and all they do is find out about lost sibling and date movie stars and rig their family's elections. this was a long parentheses. oops.)

So yeah. Mad Men and some physiology sprinkled about. And enough thinking to give me headaches. I miss my sisters, in unrelated news. A lot. : (

october twenty-second.

Blog? Blog? Don't be like this. Turn around, please. Let me explain.  No, I'm not making excuses-- well, I am, but listen. Just two seconds. I KNOW I promised you I'd do BEDO but I've been internet-less for the past four days. Jumbled entry to try and make up for the days I missed? Thanks : )

Oh gosh. I don't even know where to start. First off, I owe anyone that reads this an apology. I hate when people are sucky about promises and don't follow through, so I try not to do that. The truth is, though, I was without internet for four days which is a lot longer than it sounds. I could have gone to starbucks, or found wi-fi to leech, but I didn't. I am sorry.

Along with having no internet, I got the added bonus of no heat! The two are completely unrelated, but only added to my crankiness. I just realized its taken me 15 minutes to type this, because I keep inwardly debating how much to share. Brain editing is too hard, though, so I'll spill. Coincidentally, the past few days I haven't been blogging I've been really out of it. I'm slowly pulling myself back together, and as terribly dramatic and lame it sounds, it's true. The boy thing fell through; long story. I guess I'll just highlight the low-lights.

"Date night" turned out to be terrible. I told yolie to invite her boyfriend because I thought it'd be awkward for her to just be a third wheel while I conversed with my guy. It ended up being pretty much the opposite, though. I finally convinced myself to get dressed and called a cab friday night. I give the cabbie the address and 10 minutes later he stops in front of the same club I met the guy at. Confused, I politely fumble my words and insist there's a mistake (did he seriously think our date would be in a freaking club?! answer: yes.) Cabbie got impatient, repeated how much I owed, and I got out, flustered and disappointed. I met yolie and her boyfriend outside, with matching puzzled looks. We decided to ignore this, and make the best of it. As we made our way in, I scanned the gyrating bodies for him and cursed myself for not taking an advil before leaving. An hour passed and there was no sign from him. No text, no call, nothing. I call him, as per yolie's advice, since it was already 1 AM and things weren't going as planned at all. His phone went straight to voicemail. Cool.  I insisted yolie go dance with her boyfriend, because I felt the polite thing was to sit alone and simmer angrily, instead of making everyone involved feel uncomfortable. They left and I blinked back tears and chided myself for getting my hopes up, for his douchiness, for the situation on general. Out of nowhere this guy plops down next to me and starts talking too much. Unfortunately for him I swore off guys about five minutes ago, so he was a little late. But persistent. He kept nuzzling me, telling me I smelled good, asking me questions that I one-wordedly answered. I was trying to figure out how I could down my beer in record time and successfully cab it home while insisting yolie and her boyfriend stay, because they were having a good time. Suddenly Persistent Dudey whispers for me to look in his eyes and because I'm a silly person and had been drinking, I did. He kissed me with more tongue than is ever acceptable, simultaneously groping his way down my body while I tried untangling myself and warned my stiletto clad feet that if they didn't work, high-heeled punishments would be a regular occurrence. They complied, and I made my way to the dance floor to find yolie and tell her I was leaving. PD followed, thinking I was leading him to dance. He grabbed me and started dancing ridiculously while I looked for yolie. As my luck would have it, while this is happening, the guy I was supposed to meet was about three feet away watching this gross guy grind on me. Yolie was shooting me "TURN AROUND!!!!" glances but I was trying to tell her I was going to leave. The exchange didn't go too well, as neither of us got to transmit what we wanted. Eventually I turned around and the look on him face killed me

You know how people always say "I never act like this! This isn't me!"? Well it actually was like that. I do not have a new guy every week. I enjoy monogamous relationships where I don't have to play mind games. And being caught in this predicament I felt like the shittiest person. NOT EVEN MENTIONING that HE'S the one who sucked at communicating and was three hours late for our "date" that took place in a CLUB. jskfjdf

Okay so I go up to the guy I was supposed to meet and tried to play it off like nothing happened, considering that's how it was, but he was standoffish. He asked if the other guy was my boyfriend at about the same time the other guy came and asked me the same thing. It was an awkward situation, and I don't handle those well, so I said I had to go to the bathroom. Then things got fun. I was called a whore and other nice words by PD while old dudey stood there and watched a really drunk guy be an ass. He then came over and sat next to me, we hashed it out. I told him standing me up and being late was uncool, he told me that wasn't the way he wanted to find me, we apologized, whatever.

Yolie and her boyfriend  were on a couch opposite from us when my guy takes a sip from his whisky-coke and extracts an ice cube with his mouth. I think "oh sweet, I like to eat ice too. good sign." As soon as that thought finishes, he slips in into my mouth and makes out with me real expert like. It was nice, but I still don't know him, plus I hate having to watch others' PDA so I pulled away cutely, but not before he bites my lower lip SO bad. I get being cute and  little lip nibbling is nice, but it broke skin and my eyes watered. I give him this look like "are you kidding me?!" but he just smiles and goes back to doing the same thing. I get that I'm giving more details than necessary, but just know that six days later I still have bite marks on my lip and the hickey I got as an added bonus is just beginning to respond to cover up.

We danced, all four of us, drank some more, had an alright time. When yolie and I wanted to leave, he invited me over his place at which point I lost a lot of respect for him. I gave him this half laugh, a peck on the cheek and left. Didn't walk me to the door, didn't call me a cab, all because I wasn't going home with him. Still, even after this I had hope. I texted him the next day, asking him out for a beer, so we could actually talk. I didn't get a reply, no sign from him for two days. I decided to just call him, to see where he was in all this, because I didn't want to waste my time anymore. He was super relaxed, offered no explanation why I didn't hear from him. Somehow... the conversation ended with him inviting himself over the next night... and me accepting? I feel silly writing this, but at the time I was so dumbbb.

So I stressed about him coming over for the night a lot. I cleaned, showered, bought wine, ugh. Then, that day, my roommate had church choir practice and forgot her keys, so she asked if I could drop them off for her. I did, and instead of leaving right away, I stayed for the service. Disclosure: I don't know where I stand with religion. I'm technically romanian orthodox, but I doubt a lot. I don't go to church often, I don't know what to believe. I don't have faith. I am so jealous of people who are comfortable with their religion or lack thereof. I guess I'm agnostic, but that's that's pretty much a cover for "I don't know, stop asking me questions." Anyway, I stayed for the service, and although I always felt guilty going to church when I was little because I always thought of random stuff instead of praying, that's what I did. Churches are really pretty to me. I feel they're really conducive to thinking things out, and it worked this time too.

I realized I'm not this person I'm becoming. I would have never accepted to be treated this way by a guy. He's making basically no effort then invites himself over and all I have to say is "okay"? I just wanted a relationship SO badly. I hate not having someone more than usual, and I guess I lost track of some of my standards in the process. I dislike myself for it, but I guess it's good that I recognize it. So about church. I just thought during the whole service and by the time I walked out, I knew what I wanted to do. I called him and told him he couldn't come over, that I felt he wasn't making an effort to get to know me, and that I think we want different things.

He's called a few times, all at night, all inebriated. Can I tell you guys the best part? He texted me after I broke things off to ask me if I wanted to see the "new harry potter movie in november." Usually I dismiss his texts, but this one piqued my curiosity. I furrowed my brow and wondered if Half Blood Prince came out crazy late here, texted him back asking him what he was talking about. He replies with "didn't u say u liked harry potter? the vampire chick and her bf? with the werewolf?"
FACE PALM.

that is all, ish. I got the big parts down, and it took me all day in random chunks. More tomorrow about more diverse topics, not just fail boys. I missed you guys!

october sixteenth.

I slept from 4 AM to 6 PM today. Therefore, I'm just going to share this exchange with you guys because it made me laugh:

I tweet the following: "I'm seriously considering skipping my date tonight. Not showering/trying and watching gg/greys/office/flashforward/modern fam sounds so good"

20 minutes later I get an IM from my one of my best friends back in MI:
bff: this is why you're single, anda.
bff: get out of bed
bff: shower
bff: and wear something male-friendly.
bff: it'll go amazingly, but you have to show up for it.
bff: i love you. NOW, UP!

Sometimes I just need people to talk sense into me.

But it's SO cold and I don't own "male-friendly" things. jgkfgjfdklhjdh;shfjs
I am seriously not looking forward to getting ready, and I have to be shower, find a decent outfit, do my hair, and BE THERE at 12. It's 9.54.
Don't even wish me luck. Luck is wished for important things like passing exams, not gross girly things. I'll attempt... something... soon.

october fifteenth.

Riding the subway home today, I had
this song come on shuffle and I just let this huge smile sprawl across my face as I stared out the doors at the whizzing darkness that is underground passageways. I passed my anatomy exam, and because I am absolutely drained, can't really get into the whole "let's celebrate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" mode everyone around me is in.
I understand I passed in a calm, logic way, and what implications this has in regards to everything from here on out, but that's about it. I lied, I just got back from a midnight beer and mashed potatoes with yolie, but I bailed early to crawl back into bed.
This past week has been so intense, I feel I can't articulate words to describe it. I don't know.
The weekend is here: "date" friday, plans saturday, lazy sunday. I promise a legitimate blog post describing everything in detail because now I feel I'm mentioning things, but they don't make sense unless the have a back story. I'll get on that.
Thank you so much to everyone who left encouraging comments and sent good thoughts my way, it worked! Also, BEDO is halfway done?! Weird.
I'll see you guys tomorrow!

october fourteenth.

I honestly don't have time to be writing today, although it's one of those rare times where I feel I could have a substantial entry if I DID have the time. Long story short, I failed my anatomy exam today, the one I pulled two all nighters for. My best friend passed, and I didn't. I wish I could be relaxing with her right now. Instead, I'm at Our Bar again studying, and she's on her way. Even though she passed and could chill the fuck out. Yeah. She's lovely.
Right now I'm just tired and dirty and stressed and pretty hopeless. If I fail again tomorrow I risk not getting into second year and every time I want to retake the exam, it's $240. Bad times, right now. Please send good karma/pray/whatever you do. I'll see you guys tomorrow <3
